Camping holidays on the river Sûre

Our campsite is located in a scenically unique environment in the southern "Eifel", exactly on the border with Luxembourg on the river "Sûre". This location of the campingsite in Metzdorf still guarantees a special kind of peace and relaxation.

CAMPSITE OVERVIEW

The campsite "Alter Bahnhof" offers space for campers on several levels for 80 permanent sites and about 50 tour campers. Directly from the campsite you can cycle along the cycle path "Trier - Echternach". 80 Dauerstellplätze sowie ca. 50 Tourplätze. Direkt vom Campingplatz aus können Sie den Radweg “Trier – Echternach” mit dem Fahrrad befahren.

Camping pitches

The campsite extends on about 4 hectares for 450 meters along the river of "Sûre". The lawn is slightly sloping. The site is also particularly suitable for children: the meadow and the riverbank invite to play, to discover and invites to adventures.

Family pitches

6 family pitches. These larger pitches are further from the water and closer to the sanitary building.

These pitches are intended for families with young children up to the age of six.

For small childrens there is also a small playground with a chute, low swing, sandbox and playhouse.

This way the children can move more freely and are always within sight of dad and mom.

The ideal space

We have sunny, as well as shady pitches directly on the banks the "Sûre" river.

You can park your vehicle directly by your caravan or tent

Each pitch is between 60 square meters and 100 square meters

The dream spot

Many campsites are located directly on the banks of the Sûre. Caravans and mobile homes and tents can be located all along the "Sûre"

In the low season you can usually choose your campsite pitch.

The pitches for caravans are on a grassy area. For mobile homes there are separate pitches on solid ground

Near the caravan and motorhome sites are everywhere power outlets

Fresh water from the Eifel

Fresh and famous "Eifel-water" for refueling and filling is available at several locations scattered around the site.

Pets

Pets are of course allowed on our campsite, but must be leashed.

We offer possibilities for environmentally friendly waste seperation on our site

INTERESTING FACTS....

Our reception is open daily from 09.00 - 13.00 and from 15.00 to 19.00.
The sanitary facilities are cleaned daily from 12:00 noon. We ask you to be considerate of this time.
There is a small store in the restaurant! You can also order rolls there
Great shopping facilities nearby: EDEKA in Trierweiler (6 km), LIDL Shop in Wasserbillig - Luxembourg (8 km), REAL market in Trier-Zewen (16 km).
WASTE SEPARATION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: Paper/cardboard shredded in the paper container. Glass sorted by color into the trailers, plastic can repackaging into the container with YELLOW LID, residual waste into the black containers! Help to preserve nature!

Through the campsite leads the official bike / walking trail "Echternach (L)-Trier (DLD)". Official bike trail from Bitburg to Trier into the Saarland-area!

Swimming

For those who like swimming in natural waters and do not mind the fact that there are also fish, a refreshing dip in the Sûre is a lovely thing!

It is wonderful to go into the water on one side of the campsite, go with the flow and a little further back on the campsite. You can also go down the river "Sûre" with a rubber dinghy (without motor) or air mattress into the water.

Since the current of the river is very strong, children should only go into the water under the supervision of an adult!

In Grevenmacher / Luxembourg (11 km away from Metzdorf) there is a public swimming pool (outdoor pool) and in Trier and Bitburg (about 16/30 km) there are indoor pools with slides, etc.

Fishing

Die Sauer, der Fluss der Eifel, hat (wie die Ourthe) einen besonderen Status in der Eifel. Die Ländergrenze zwischen Luxemburg und Deutschland verläuft mitten im Fluß. Dadurch ist die Sauer sowohl den deutschen als auch den luxemburgischen Behörden unterstellt. Somit kann der Fluss als “Angel-Fluss” genutzt werden.

For the fishers and the fly fishers a nice advantage: you only need a fishing permit to fish. For about € 5,- you can fish from the shore for one week, for € 10,- you can fish from the boat for one week.

Fishing is allowed, with the necessary license, from June 15 to March 01. This license is available at the tourist info upon presentation of a passport/ID card) in Wasserbillig (6 km away from the campsite).

Provided that the fish have the minimum size listed below, the followingthe following species of fish may be caught

Pike: 50 cm: perch 45 cm, eel, pike-perch, barbel, carp: 40 cm: grayling, nase, tench, trout: 30 cm, roach: 15 cm.

Sie können auch Ihren Fang direkt auf dem Campingplatz auf dem schön gelegenen Grillplatz am Wasser grillen.

Fire basket

For lovers of a campfire at the tent or caravan, we are happy to provide a fire basket (with stones underneath). For this and for the wood we charge a small amount. It may happen that you have to chop the wood yourself! For this we will of course provide you with the appropriate tools.
